Following the hectic and pressured efforts taken by ACDA and other stakeholders to move the agenda forward and get caste included in the Equality Bill as a protected characteristic, we are pleased that all the major stakeholders recognised the urgency of this situation and met together.

Stakeholders together in a historic meeting at the House of Lords

This meeting took place in the House of Lords on the 4th February 2010 and was chaired by Baroness Thornton with key inputs being made by Lord Harries, Lord Lester of Herne Hill, Lord Avebury, Rodney Bickerstaffe and ACDA Vice Chair, Dr Raj Chand.

The Government have seen the strength of public support for this amendment and have given a commitment to adopt a twin track approach to the adoption of caste discrimination in the Equality Bill.
